Biography
A curious and passionate cellist, Tiphaine Lucas’ musical journeys take her across Europe. Originally from Nantes, she was first drawn in by the adventures that music offered her: after initial studies at the Conservatoire of Angers, where she won the soloist competition, she joined the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, studying under Xavier Phillips and Mathieu Lejeune. A few years later, she completed her Bachelor’s and then her Master’s degree in Performance, receiving the Tremplin Prize from the Leenaards Foundation for the excellence of her final recitals. During her studies, she was supported by the Max D. Jost Foundation, received the Chursächsische Philharmonie Prize in Bad Elster for her orchestral performance of C.P.E. Bach’s C major concerto, and also spent three years as director of the Pulsion Winter Festival, which gives young talents the opportunity to perform on stages throughout the canton of Valais. Passionate about orchestral as well as chamber music, she performs in festivals both in the regions she calls home and in places she discovers along the way: the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Rencontres Musicales d’Évian, the Grafenegg Festival, the Schubertiade of Espace 2, the Chorégies d’Orange, the Zermatt Music Festival, the Aarhus Festival, and the International Viola Congress in Salaya, Thailand. Since 2024, she has been the artistic director of the Estivales du Pays Blanc festival. She regularly performs with various ensembles that enable her to explore a wide range of repertoire, including the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Nexus, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra, and the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. She is currently an academist with the Musikkollegium Winterthur. Deeply committed to making art accessible to all, Tiphaine performs for the Concerts du Cœur and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation – Live Music Now, both of which aim to bring high-quality concerts to people who cannot attend performances. She continues to refine her craft at the Zurich University of the Arts with Orfeo Mandozzi, and with great masters of the cello such as Peter Bruns, Thomas Grossenbacher, Marc Coppey, and Clemens Hagen.
